Food + Drink

Hush Heath Estate, in collaboration with saffron specialists, Saff Tali, proudly presents Jake’s Saffron Beer – a new craft beer for beer lovers and flavour-finding foodies.

Jake Balfour-Lynn, co-founder of Saff Tali, is following in his father’s footsteps by creating the newest addition to the Hush Heath Estate family of premium drinks.    This exciting collaboration launches Jake’s Saffron Beer as the first ever commercialised saffron beer in the UK.

Whilst directing films around the world, Jake’s love of food and culture led him to the heart of Morocco where he and his business partner, chef Sébastien Fiducia, trekked across mountains in pursuit of the high quality and elusive saffron spice.  They eventually reached the village of Taliouine on the edge of the Sahara Desert, where the finest organically- grown crocus flowers thrive and from which the vivid “Saharan Gold” saffron threads can be collected.

Saff Tali Director, Jake Balfour-Lynn, comments: “To many people saffron is a bit of a mystery, but when sourced with care, this spice is an incredible flavour enhancer, merging with other ingredients and allowing them to linger on the tongue.  That’s why, in a world of highly hopped beers, we’ve bucked the trend by deciding to create this subtle, smooth style of lager that allows the saffron to flourish and bring out the best in the beer’s delicate balance of bitter and aromatic hops. We have created a beer that takes you on a journey and is a pleasure to drink.”

Blonde in style, but golden in colour, Jake’s Saffron Beer’s yellow-tinted bubbles sit aloft a premium lager that has notes of honey and tangerine pulling through. Although self-sufficiently thirst quenching, the premium lager is light enough to sit alongside a meal; rewarding those who are creative with their food matching. Spicy curries, cheesy dishes, steamed fish and apple crumbles are some great pairings for Jake’s Saffron Beer.

At 4.8% abv, this lighter style of lager, which is vegan and gluten-free, retails for £24.00 for a case of 12 bottles (330cl) or colourful cans (330cl).  Jake’s Saffron Beer can be purchased from Hush Heath Estate’s cellar door in Staplehurst, Kent, and online at

Hush Heath Estate, best known for making premium English wines and Kentish ciders, is delighted to welcome Jake’s Saffron Beer to its portfolio of beverages.
