Emporia Fabric & Crafts

Fancy trying your hand at some summery sewing for your little ones? Emporia Fabric & Crafts has two girls’ exclusive dress patterns on sale that could be just the thing if you’ve been inspired by the likes of The Great British Sewing Bee.

Clair Heal runs the shop out of Park Mall in Ashford town centre, and designed the patterns herself. Having been a costume designer for several years before she had her own children, Clair is now putting her creative skills to good use by designing patterns for both kids and adults. Her beautifully simple kid’s Reversible Dress is the perfect summer make for newbie sewers – designed with no fiddly bits like zips or button holes, the dress is in fact two simple shift dresses in one.  Ideal for children who struggle to keep themselves stain free while out and about, as you can simply whip off the dress and turn it inside out to reveal another (cleaner) pattern.

For those with a few more sewing skills under their belts, the Amelie Dress is a delightful little girl’s dress that features a fitted bodice, full gathered skirt and comes either with three quarter length sleeves, or as a sleeveless version that makes a perfect summer party dress. The dress was inspired by one of Clair’s friend’s daughters, whose name is Amelie, hence the name.

Both dress patterns are available exclusively from Emporia Fabric & Crafts at £8.00 for the Reversible Dress and £12.00 for the Amelie Dress. Or if you fancy having some expert tuition while you sew, you can attend one of the sewing classes held at the shop, and learn how to make the dress with Clair herself. Dates for the Reversible Dress include 10.30am – 1.30pm on Thursday 18th August 2016,  and for the Amelie Dress, 10.30am – 2.30pm on Thursday 11th August 2016. The classes costs £45.00 and £50.00 respectively.
